In the above video, English comedian and actor, John Cleese, talks about the importance of having enemies (who you can therefore blame for all of your problems).
We're apparently living in a deeply divided society. A multitude of studies seem to confirm that life in general — not just politics — has become extremely polarised in America.
Politicians campaign promising to "unite" and "heal", but in reality, push narratives that furthet divide us. Not contradicting themselves, but purposely sowing deceit.
If you were to ask me, I'd say the problem is that politics is now America's primary religion. Both left and right have an outsized faith in the government's ability to perform miracles.
This isn't politics. These are the reactions of the religiously devout.
America's civic religion affects the right too. For example, pledging allegiance to the State, instead of God.
Think about it... People on the other side are not just wrong... they're diabolically evil. Even people on our side, but do not sufficiently agree, are apostates preaching blasphemy.
Politics shouldn't be this important.
